the third partMaria has given in to her fears and spoken to her GP who referred Nic to a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist has seen Nic and prescribed tablets after a home visit where Nic hardly spoke at all. She will be returning in a few days but in the meantime Maria is desperately worrid that Nic's Behaviour is getting worse by the day and he refuses to take his medication as he fears it is poisoned. She is also fearful of Nic's unpredictability and occasional aggressive outbursts. Nic has Barely any contact with reality, he is constantly fearful and paranoid.

His parents are, by turns, angry with him and worried that his behaviour is different from usual teenage rebellion. His mother tries in vain to encourage him to go to work, to let wash his coat (which Nic thinks protects him), to go out with his friends. Nic hears people in th room saying things to him, usually derogatory, he also thinks he is being spied on, this is all very frightening. His mother has notices that he seems to speak to himself, he laughs and cris inappropriately; she realises this is not normal and clutches at straws saying he has invisible friends like small children do occasionally.
