This is another brass trio I wrote. This was the third time it has been played, but it always gets a good response. Hope you enjoy it. Here's the program notes... This piece was the result of a conversation between my roommate, Adam Pusateri and me about how the name "Tom" has so many bad connotations. The first movement features the trumpet sneaking around in a manner similar to the "Pink Panther." At the very end, the music indicates he is climbing a tree and taking a peek. The French horn emotes a sense of being unsure, as the rest of the trio stays strong in a major key during the second movement. I had the gospel story of Jesus resurrected while Thomas doubts this to be true as my inspiration for this music. The final movement of this brass suite is meant to be a big bunch of fun for the trombone player as he messes around annoying the rest of the ensemble. I don't know many trombone players who don't enjoy a bit of silliness. This piece was selected by MENC for its 2008 Young Composers' Showcase and was performed for a really big audience in Minneapolis last weekend! Stay tuned for the "Tom Suite II" with possible movements for Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, and Tom Streeter.
